Artist Statement:

After receiving a BFA in art and art education I have devoted my life to the arts in one form or another. As a freelance graphic artist and designer for thirty-seven years I have drawn or painted everything from medical supplies and equipment; to real estate; to women’s apparel; to animals of all shapes and sizes. I have done work for many different national organizations. In Door County, samples of my logo designs and hand carved signs with pictorials can be seen at a number of businesses. Over the years I received numerous awards of recognition for my work and was published in a hardbound book titled, Signs Of The Times. I was invited by the US Government to display a piece of my work in a world touring Cultural Exchange Exhibit titled Design USA.

I then switched directions and spent twelve years working for two non-profit arts organizations in Door County, my passion being educating the public about the visual arts. In 2008 my focus became my own personal journey as an artist.

Over the past forty years I have worked in many different mediums including watercolor, pastel and currently have returned to oils. In my paintings, I strive to capture a mood or emotion. I want to pull the viewer into the painting and have them react based on their own life experiences. It is always interesting to hear how different those reactions can be. Artistic style, I believe, is an evolving process, growing and changing with each painting. I consider myself lucky to have a visual language in which I can express things that move me and there by encourage others to take a closer look at the world around them. The American painter, Robert Henri stated, “Art can be a powerful voice for anything, and artists should be the people who keep track of the unnoticed adventure underlying the routine of daily life. That art is the means to jolt ourselves and others awake to the wonder of being alive.”
