Artist Statement:

After my retirement, as I began painting, I learned how much I missed creating art.  In 30 or more years my art was limited to sketching as I was talking on the telephone.  I have, since 2007, learned to see texture, color, and value at a very high level. Every painting improves this ability. I can now say with certainty there is never a blue sky, never a green tree.  An hour outside and a scene will change dramatically as a result of altered light conditions.

The peace and joy I feel when painting is simply remarkable and I am grateful I have this endeavor and that people seem to enjoy seeing and watching me create paintings.

Biography:
After a 27 year career as a chiropractor my wife and I retired to Door County.  I started painting in watercolors and after 500 paintings moved on to acrylics. In my second year of painting I was fortunate to have my painting, “Behind the Cherry Hut” win the cover competition for the “Ministry Health Care Magazine” and the work was seen in over 250,000 homes in the mid-west.  As I moved into acrylics I won the “Best in Show” award in the Plymouth, Wisconsin Plein Air Show, and a Juror’s Award in the Miller Juried Show.  I now paint exclusively in oil and love the rich buttery feel of the medium.  I have learned so much since 2007 and continue to learn with every painting.
